Overview
Pearson describes PTE Academic as a single, computer-based test of all four skills, taken at an authorised test centre. It cannot be taken at home.
Pearson states it is approved by Australia and New Zealand for work and migration visas and accepted by the Department of Home Affairs for immigration visas in Australia.
Format
The test has three parts.
Total time is about 2 hours. Scores are reported on a 10 to 90 scale.
- Part 1: Speaking and Writing, 9 question types, 76 to 84 minutes
- Part 2: Reading, 5 question types, 23 to 30 minutes
- Part 3: Listening, 8 question types, 31 to 39 minutes
Results
Pearson says most scores are released within two business days, and some may take up to five business days.
Accessibility
Pearson publishes a list of accommodations granted with valid medical evidence, and comfort aids that need no advance request. Requests must be submitted at least six weeks before the chosen test.
What to check on the official page
Check which score each visa or authority requires. That requirement comes from the visa or assessing body, not from Pearson. The Home Affairs list of accepted tests could not be retrieved, so confirm acceptance there.
What changes often
Fees, centres, formats and visa acceptance can change. Re-check Pearson and Home Affairs before booking.
